Kyle Ingels talks about vibrant Catholic life on the UMD campus Despite the perception that Catholic students leave their religion at home when they enter college, Father Kyle Ingels, (pictured,) Chaplain at the University of Maryland told the February CBN breakfast attendees, he has a very active Catholic population.Students attend one of four Masses each weekend, are on waiting lists to attend retreats and flock to adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on weekday afternoons. Vocations and RCIA candidates are also more plentiful than in many parishes. The down side is that neither the Archdiocese nor the University supports the Catholic Student Center. Fr. Kyle must raise funds he needs for retreats, utilities, and one part-time secretary. DeMatha Catholic High School was this month's grant recipient. Their grant will be used to offset costs incurred when students do mission work in other areas and cities during semester breaks. He and his wife Vicky also produce all the signs and banners for the Preakness, a job that includes painting the logo on the lawn. January, 2010 Networking Breakfast New attendees help grow CBN-PG An overflow crowd attended the January 29 CBN-PG Networking Breakfast, with many newcomers in attendance. The solid turn-outs over the past months can be credited to the diligence of members inviting guests and the guests themselves returning. Tim O'Brien, pictured at right, attorney and CPA, of Joseph, Greenwald and Laake in Greenbelt, explained changes in the tax laws. O'Brien warned that the estate tax, although presently expired, is likely to be restored retroactively this year and he also mentioned the homebuyer tax credit, bonus depreciation and net operating loss carrybacks, all tax benefits included in last year's economic stimulus bill.St. Matthias School in Lanham was January's grant recipient. Pat Wilson, Principal and Vivian Mason, Administrative Assistant, accepted the check from Grants Co-Chair Steve Kemp and President Sean O'Brien. It will be used to purchase an electronic documents reader. December, 2009 Christmas Breakfast November, 2009 Networking Breakfast High-speed networking yields results During the November Networking Breakfast, Membership Chair Tony Laubach of Laubach and Regnell Financial Services, LLC, led the group of 50 attendees in a round of speed networking that brought many diverse businesspeople together in a relatively short amount of time. As Tony watched the timer, members moved about the room and had two minutes to share an "elevator pitch" to someone they didn't know. At right, Steve Kemp of SK Motors is pictured listening to first-timer John Kelly of Inner-City Business Products, LLC. As meeting sponsor, Steve also was able to tell the assembly about SK Motors' unique financing, detailing, car search and parish and school partnership programs. Steve was also on hand as CBN-PG Grants Committee co-chair to award kindegarten teacher Lynn Hawkins and Pastor George Wilkninson of Holy Redeemer, College Park the $1000 grant, to be used to purchase technology products for the classroom. Fr. George attested to the benefits of being a CBN-PG member and thanked Steve for his generosity throughtout the year.
October, 2009 Networking Breakfast Fourth Annual CBN-PG Crab Feast
Approximately 160 people enjoyed good food, football and fellowship at the Fourth Annual CBN-PG Crab Feast, held at the Bowie Knights of Columbus on September 27, 2009. Charlie Kinney, a founding member of CBN-PG, was the winner of the 50-inch TV, which was the center of attention during the Redskins game at the event. Although the Redskins lost, it was a close game, and spirits in the room were enthusiastic. .
